Stansted Airport
International flights to and from London use London Stansted Airport, a secondary airport in the United Kingdom. It may be found in close proximity to Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex, England, to the northeast of Central London.
More than 160 destinations in Europe, Asia, and Africa are serviced by London Stansted Airport. The low-cost airline Ryanair, which flies to more than 100 locations, uses Stansted as its primary base in the United Kingdom.
The town of Stansted Mountfitchet is close to London Stansted Airport. There is just one major terminal there. Departure gates are located in all three satellite terminals; one is connected to the main terminal via air bridge, while the other two are accessible through the Stansted Airport Transit System people mover.
Foster and Partners, with the help of structural engineer Peter Rice, developed the terminal building's "floating" roof, which is supported by a space frame of inverted-pyramid roof trusses and evokes the image of a stylized swan in flight. Each truss has a "utility pillar" at its base that serves as a source of indirect uplighting as well as a hub for utilities including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical wiring.
